Oystershell's strategic research is aimed at innovation of health products, more specifically class I and II medical devices, dermatological products and cosmetics, biocides and dietary supplements.
We innovate in Form and Function
As a small company Oystershell focuses on limited but significant improvements in consumer products. Our team members are trained to look out for niche products that have stayed with a certain technology for too long. At the other hand, we love the adagio that "Something new is something old we've forgotten". This is often true.
Our capacities include the following
- For ingredient research we have a considerable repository of samples. Our sample database includes over 4000 ingredients of which more than 2000 botanical extracts plants and specimen. These often serve as the starting point for biological screenings.
- In formulation, we often look for resourceful solutions for patient-unfriendly situations. We love to experiment with new galenic forms.
- In packaging, our cooperation with associated designers has taught us that 'form should follow function'. In consumer health packaging often leaves a lot to be desired. We stock more than 600 different packaging specimen and about as many samples of “competing” finished products of the type you would find in a European pharmacy.
- A formulation lab with bench-top equipment for small scale pilot manufacturing.
- Climate chambers, analytical equipment such as HPLC and other equipment for quick and approximate testing of critical parameters.
Oystershell does not have an in-house technology platform. Our research plans are always built around internal ideas and external task partners. University labs and research partners are actively encouraged to enroll in our cooperation plans (see pipeline).
